The St. Louis Eclipse Task Force is starting to see a pickup of activity related to the 2017 Total Solar Eclipse.  We expect to learn more over the next few months when we start reaching out to area leaders, but here are a few things that we have learned so far:

  • St. Louis County Parks has created a task force headed by St. Louis County Park Ranger, Laura MacLeod.  Laura also recently joined our St. Louis Eclipse Task Force.  Planning is still in the early stages but Laura believes that St. Louis County will hold events at least two St. Louis County Parks.   Top St. Louis County park candidates include Jefferson Barracks and Queeny Park.  A major concern is the ability of the park to handle traffic flow.
  • The Thursday, December 17, 2015 issue of the Jefferson County Leader in Jefferson County Missouri featured a front page article on the 2017 eclipse.  In the article, Judy Williams, chairwoman of the Festus Tourism Board, said Festus will likely plan an event at the city's West City Park.  Festus has set aside funding for the purchase of 4,000 eclipse glasses and portable toilets.  The article also included comments from Jason Eisenbeis, Crystal City Administrator, indicating that their planning is in early stages but may look something similar to the (Crystal City) Centennial celebration, a weekend-long event.
