Don't let your solar glasses go to waste!

Eclipse glassesWe encourage you to hang onto your solar glasses because they can be used for looking at the Sun even when we don't have an eclipse. Some can even see Sunspots with the glasses.  And don't forget, we have another eclipse on April 8, 2024.   It seems far away, but time passes fast and ISO certified solar glasses do not expire!

However, if you plan to discard your solar glasses, don't throw them in the trash!  The St. Louis Eclipse Task Force is partnering Astronomers Without Borders and St. Louis area libraries, schools and businesses to collect new and gently used ISO certified solar glasses for use by other countries during upcoming eclipses.   The solar glasses will be held in a warehouse by Explore Scientific based in Springdale, Arkansas and sent by Astronomy Without Borders to schools in South America and Asia when eclipses cross those continents in 2019.  This is a great opportunity for our St. Louis area to help others enjoy the grand spectacle that we witnessed.

What are your requirements?

We are looking for ISO certified (ISO 12312-2) solar eclipse glasses that are gently used with no scratches or punctures.

Where do I take my glasses?

We will start collecting glasses on September 1st (possibly sooner at some locations).   We have already recruited a number of collection centers and are recruiting more.  Check this webpage over the next few days to find a collection center near you.
